MATCH REPORTS - 03/02/18
Another successful Saturday with four wins out of five games, the majority of which were away! See the individual match reports below:
3s 38 - 25 Aberdeen 1s (away) WIN
EUNC 3 vs AUNC 1. This game was a lot of pressure for the EUNC 3 squad, as we knew Aberdeen 1s were an extremely strong team only losing one of their matches so far and sitting just behind us in Division 2. Therefore it was going to be a vital game of the BUCS season. The game started very strong from both teams, Razann and Meg having to work very hard as shooters to break through a very tight Aberdeen defence. Composure and the forcing of errors through our own pressure was what the 3s focussed on and this allowed for us to convert some important turnovers to have that edge over Aberdeen. By half time 3s had managed to acquire a 6 point lead but such a close game meant that we had to keep playing as we were, calmly but effectively. An incredible 3rd and 4th quarter from the 3s showed the edge we had over Aberdeen 1s. Forcing errors, quick pace and passing allowed us to convert into points. Final score ended 38-25 to the 3s! An exceptional game and probably the best we have played all season against a very strong 1st team. Shout out to all my 3s gals for that game, I came away a very pleased captain!
4s 47 - 32 Dundee 1s (away) LOSS
EUNC 4s lost 47-32 away to Dundee 1s on Saturday, with Ola (new captain woo) getting player of the match for some great movement and shooting throughout the game. We started off a bit on the back foot, with Claire still on the train from Edinburgh (woopsies!!!) and only 7 gals playing, but we held our own in the first quarter, only finishing 2 behind Dundee. The second quarter saw us all back in our normal positions, but Dundee's movement down the court helped them keep their centres and turn over a few of ours. Unfortunately the gap continued to grow, but we took away some key things to work on in training, so the 4s are feeling positive that they will continue to improve!
6s 40 - 38 Stirling 2s (away) WIN
EUNC 6s played away this weekend against Stirling 2s and won 40-38! Very close game in the first quarter. In the 2nd quarter the 6s managed to pull away to a 5 goal lead going into the 3rd. This quarter proved to be a difficult one with Stirling fighting back, meaning we went into the 4th quarter only a goal in front. After some impressive play all the way through the court with exceptional shooting from Imogen Bates and some great defensive turnovers we managed to get ahead and win the game. Imogen was named player of the match. Great fighting performance and good fitness from everyone playing!
7s 45 - 24 Heriot-Watt 3s (away) WIN
On Saturday EUNC 7s travelled to Herriot-Watt University to play their 3s. It was a tough first quarter getting into the swing of it and a close score of 13-10 to us by the end of it. We knew we had to up our game and fight more than usual but by half time we had secured a 15 goal lead. From then on it got better and better from the 7s, playing to our strengths and really coming together as a team with the shooters getting the goal nearly every time. The final score was 45-25 to EUNC
8s 37 - 35 UWS 1s (home) WIN
On Saturday 3rd Feb the 8s played at home against UWE 1s. They got off to a strong start, however UWE came back fighting and by the third quarter had built up a lead. The fourth quarter was very close, but Edinburgh managed to pull away right at the end winning the game 37-35. MoM was Lauren Thomson
