Conference Cup Clean Sweep!!!

This Saturday (28th January) saw the last 16 round of the Scottish Conference Cup and Plate! A super Saturday for EUNC saw FIVE OUT OF FIVE WINS, meaning that our 3s and 5s have qualified for the Conference Cup quarter-final and our 6s, 7s and 8s (the 4s will play their game against Abertay 1s next Tuesday) have qualified for the quarter finals of the Plate. HOW EXCITING.

This weekend we also saw seven players from the 1s and 2s travel to Dublin with the SSS rep squad to play the Republic of Ireland - stay tuned for a special feature of EUNC on tour!

Match Reports:

3s 50 - 27 Napier 1s home

Due to getting a bye in the previous round this was the first round of the Conference cup for us, and what a way to start it with a win of 50-27. The girls started off well with a convincing few turn overs in defence and with shooters converting well. We managed to create a lead of 10 by the first quarter. 3s had a slow start in the second and third quarter being unable to play the strongest we have, a few frustrating umpiring calls meant we began to get sloppy. We needed a strong final quarter to finish. Sophie and Katie came on to create some much needed support and shooting chances which allowed us to regain our momentum and for us to finish strong. Shout out to the 3's Ellie Keeton who turned 18! well played and see u on the Prow dance floor! A great start to hopefully a long journey ahead of us in the conference cup!

5s 34 - 28 Dundee 2s away

5s won their last 16 cup game against Dundee 2’s 34-28. The game started off shaky with a lot of turn overs from both teams which meant we could not find a rhythm. It wasn’t until the last quarter that the 5s managed to take the lead and dominate all through the court. Player of the match went to Beth Baker after a fantastic performance at GA.

6s 32 - 21 Aberdeen 4s away

EUNC 6s beat Aberdeen 4s 32-21 to reach the next stage of the cup. Training this week involved a lot of interception drills and it resulted in some stunning interceptions, defence managing to turn over a lot of ball which was very positive for us, shoutout to Amina Ghafor, Asha Banerjee and Orla Schatzlein for their performance. Amina was named player of the match after an impressive game. Great shooting by Rhianna Queen, Sophie Balsillie and Imogen Bates allowed us to win the game, with some excellent movement and feeds into the circle by Laura Gilliland and Olivia Haig. Overall a great team performance.

7s 45 - 31 St Andrews 5s away

First quarter - both teams were very even and there was good defensive and attacking play from both sides. The score was 12-11 to St Andrews at the end of this quarter. Second quarter - with Edinburgh defence communicating great which made it hard for St Andrews to break through leaving the score 25-17 to Edinburgh. The third quarter saw some changes for the Edinburgh attack as St Andrews were catching on to our attacking play and centre passes. This threw them off meaning our attack were strong. Final quarter - both defense and attack came out strong leaving us with a final score of 45-31 to Edinburgh. The MoM was Ella Davies.

8s 27 - 21 Abertay 2s home

On Saturday 27th Jan the 8s played Abertay 2s in the first round of the cup. Abertay started out strong, and the 8s were behind in the first quarter. They closed the gap throughout the game ending the 3rd quarter just one goal behind. With some superb shooting the team pulled through in the final quarter, finishing the game 27-21 and qualifying for the next round.
