SCOTTISH CUP 04/11/17
On the 4th November our 1s and 2s spent their day over at the Oriam, Heriot-Watt, to take part in the Scottish Cup tournament. This is a tournament between all of the amateur Netball Clubs in Scotland. Our teams managed to win all of their matches, meaning they are sat in 4th and 6th place in the table on goal difference which qualifies them for the cup knockout stages which will take place later in the year. Well done ladieees!!
Tournament reports:
EUNC 1s:
Last weekend saw EUNC 1s take to their first tournament and show that teamwork makes the dream work. Sweetie box and matching hair ribbons in tow we were ready to go!
We had drawn Orkney, Rebound and Caledonian 2 in our group and first up was our match against Orkney…
We knew that with the shorter (26 mins) matches we couldn’t rely on our fitness to extend a lead, as we usually do in the second half of full matches and it was vital we came out strong from the beginning as there was no time for a slow start!
Everyone quickly adapted to the slippy floor and stricter umpiring. There was lovely timing of drives, with the whole team bringing the ball down the court really nicely. I’m sure we can all agree it was great to have Clare Tuhoy back in her EUNC dress too! We won the match 27-5, a goal difference that later proved major in securing a high spot in the tournament table.
Our second match against Rebound was tied 12-12 at half time so we knew we had to try something different. I’m thankful to my team that they have so much versatility amongst them and on this particular occasion want to give a huge shout out to Rosie for coming onto GA – you played really well! We finished the match with a win of 27-19 and I am a thrilled we have shown ourselves that we can come back strong in tougher games. I think this is going to be really important in the season going forward in order to achieve our aims.
Our final match was against Caledonia 2. Again, there was some amazing full team play and the ball was flowing lovely. Everyone finished really strong and worked to keep our intensity high in a more comfortable match.
Players player was awarded to Rebecca Metcalfe! I always appreciate having you as part of our centre court as not only do you bring the ball down the court smoothly in our attacking play but you are equally committed to defending and are therefore a huge support to the circle defence. She didn’t let the umpire’s vendetta against her “footwork” stop her and had a number of impressive interceptions!
Big congrats to Chloe and Antonia also for both finishing with 94% shooting statistics. The additional shooting practice is paying off loads! On behalf of the team we appreciate all the shooters putting in this extra effort!
Having finished 4th in the overall table behind, East Kilbride, Scotstoun & ENC Onyx and securing a home draw for the first knockout round we have established ourselves in a great position – with only 3 goals difference between us and 2nd place!
We are all hoping to have a really good run in the Scottish Cup this year. This is an amazing opportunity for us to get games against the best teams in Scotland, providing invaluable experience for our tougher matches against English sides.
And, I wouldn’t put it past us to go all the way!

EUNC 2s
The 2s were drawn with SPRA, Gordonians, and the Holyrood Thistles. The games were played in that order and increased in difficulty each time.
Every girl took to the court on Saturday and represented EUNC well. It’s a great position to be in as a captain to know that I can play many different combinations and be confident that we’ll win! We have qualified for the cup alongside the 1s. On the day we placed 6th of 16 with a goal difference of 25.
The Scottish Cup tournament was a fun day for the 2s and we were happy with our performance. Lauren Sinclair was so happy that she had a lil leakage... As a team we look forward to the more competitive rounds. 2s2s2s out x
