21/10/17 - 2S DOMINATE VS SAINTS 1S
Two home matches for EUNC this Saturday against two 1st teams resulted in a huge win for our 2s and an hard fought loss for our 6s. See the individual match reports below:
EUNC 2s vs. St Andrews 1s - 21/10/2017 WON 63-52
With a couple of injuries, illnesses, and an absence hanging over our heads, the 2s were nervous. After beating St. Andrews in Varsity by only two goals previously, there was everything to play for. Starting 7: Meg McNair Gabbi Barker Emma Watkinson Rosina Costello Heather Marshall Alice Insull Elinor Hull.
The game was goal for goal for the majority of the first quarter. The opposition adopted an interesting tactic - intimidation. Their bench stood at the court side and made sure we knew they were there. They were gunning for the win. But, as the minutes passed the 2s settled into their own game. The yelling and shouting soon stopped. EUNC were eight goals up. The same seven took the court for quarter two. The score fluctuated often but there was no panic... from our side anyway. A tougher team from St. Andrews it seemed had joined us. The umpires often had words about persistent contact and obstruction. Their WD and C appeared to have a slight vendetta against our baby Emma, who inevitably had the last laugh as her defender stormed off of the court mid game - patches thrown and all. 34-26. The third quarter seen Lauren Sinclair and Jess McArthur take the court. Our fresh legs helped us boost the score from an eight to a ten goal lead. Our aims: widen the gap, stay focussed, and keep effort levels up. The final - and what felt like 50th - quarter line up stayed the same. St. Andrews really fought back and we made a few consecutive mistakes. There was only five goals in it at one point, but, we managed to pull it back. The final whistle went.
The score: 63-52. Player of the match: Gabbi Barker. Thank you to our lovely supporters
. You kept us grounded and going. It was lovely to have some Alumni there too. Thank you to my team for never being complacent, and for showing excellent sportsmanship. - Meg x
EUNC 6s vs QMU 1s - LOST 27-45
EUNC 6s played at home this Saturday with a very tough match v QMU 1s. Unfortunately our great team performance wasn’t enough and QMU took the lead in the first and second quarter. EUNC 6s got back into the match in the 3rd quarter, equaling the score with queen Margaret but unfortunately this wasn’t enough. Player of the match was Ellie Yip who had some fab passes and great movement on the court. Final score was 45-27 to QMU.
