Match Reports: SATURDAY 4TH FEB

Saturday 4th February was a very mixed bag for EUNC. With 5 games to be played, we came out with two wins, two loses, and one cancelled match. EUNC 6

EUNC 6s had one of their toughest matches on Saturday evening against rivals Stirling 2s. A highly contended match which saw their last meeting with the 6s winning by just one goal but this time they sides met in the semi finals of the conference plate. The Edinburgh side started off strong taking the lead, but only five minutes in our talented centre Layla Scott went down with a twisted knee and we were then down to 7 men. Even with that against us, it was still all to play for. Our excellent defence and centre court players who kept turning balls over, combined with our hard working shooters, Sophie Bastille and Ellie Kooiman the game was extremely tight in the first half. It was only towards the end of the third quarter where our grasp on the lead slipped thanks to some contentious umpiring and the oppositions crowd - but we never gave up. Unfortunately we lost .... but we hope to give another great game when we play Stirling again this Saturday. Special mention must go to all the girls who played their hearts out and did not give up - but especially Bryony Robertson & Megan Gleeson (who got player of the match).

EUNC 4

The 4s faced Dundee 1s in the quarter finals of the Scottish Conference Cup, and having played them twice before and coming out with a win and a loss the 4s were determined to secure a place in the semis. And they did just that, with some excellent attacking play down the court and fierce defending, the 4s came out victorious with a 47-40 win, a narrow margin but a deserved win. Emma Watkinson (Photographed below) got player of the match for her consistent domination as C for the full match, coming off court at the end with bloodied and blistered feet. This is a fantastic victory for the 4s who will join EUNC 3s in the semi finals of the cup. The 4s face Abertay 1s in the semi finals which is to be another challenge for the fab 4s as they are currently sitting top of their league with a strong team.

EUNC 2

This weekend the twos played St Andrew’s first team for the second time this season. This was a huge fixture for us as St Andrew’s were sitting just 3 points above us in the league after having beaten us before Christmas. This was undoubtedly our best performance so far this year, the fight we put up and the effort put in by each and every player was amazing. St Andrews snuck in a fairly large lead by the end of the first half, with a score of 23-33, but we kept pushing in attempt to close the gap, which we did do at times to take the lead! The rest of the game was very very intense, each team leading at times and the gap widening and closing constantly – every centre pass was crucial and every shot so important (no pressure shooters!). Unfortunately in the end we didn’t come out on top, with a final score of 59-54 to St Andrews, but a thoroughly great game to watch and be a part of. Shoutout to the threes for helping our diminished team yet again! We are considering renaming the team “the throos”! Overall, despite the disappointing (and slightly frustrating result), every single player gave a great performance, well done twos! We’ll get them next time

EUNC 1

The 1sts played Herriot watt 1sts on Saturday winning 64/30. The day didn't start well with half the team stuck in rugby traffic. After a quick and rushed warm up the match started. Bottom of the league Herriot watt had a point to prove and came out strong. The 1sts continuing on from last week had a very dominant through court defence which piled the pressure on. Some basic errors on our part meant we missed out on the opportunity to really push on. We re grouped at half time and worked steadily with Eilidh Reid making life difficult for the HW attack. Our continued pressure prevailed and we came Away with a strong win.
