Match Reports: FOUR OUTTA FOUR
EUNC 2
This weekend the 2s faced Strathclyde 1s for the second time this season. Going into the match, the team felt happy to be back on court in our first BUCS match this semester, and also felt somewhat confident that we could win considering our previous win of 71-55. For me, it felt like all my Christmases had come at once having a squad of 11 to choose from…huge huge thank you to Heather Marshall, Rosina Costello and Jenny O’Riley from the 3s for coming along and playing for us…we love you!! The twos got off to a great start with the score being 14-7 at the end of the first quarter and 26-18 at half time. At half time we made a few changes to the team and had a good team talk about fighting for the ball and upping the energy on court. Defence combos of Polly Keeling, Scarlett Brown and Lauren Metcalfe absolutely nailed it as usual and some beautiful feeds into the circle helped us keep the lead throughout the game, ending with a result of 55-37, a fabulous result keeping us 3rd in the table! Shoutout must go to Meg McNair who’s shots were well and truly ‘on fleek’. Well done twos (and threes saviours!!).
EUNC 1 The 1sts played Glasgow 1st on Saturday 28th January and came out on top with a score of 56 to 20 goals. With all 12 players available the aim of the match was to try out different combinations and to rest some players after a couple of strenuous weeks of training. The first 5 mins of the first quarter were quite slow with neither team scoring very many goals. EUNC quickly adapted and got the goals rolling. The full team defence paid off and we limited Glasgow to only 3 goals in the first quarter. More of the same followed in the 2nd quarter which allowed us to change it up completely in the 2nd half. We started the 2nd half with 5 new players taking to the court which allowed us to continue with intensity. With some lovely drives to the circle the midcourt found it easy to find their shooters and the defence’s clear communication limited Glasgow’s attack. Overall a great run out for the 1sts with lots more to come in the rest of the season.
EUNC 5
Edinburgh uni 5's won 59-15 against Aberdeen 2's. With Aberdeen beating Edinburgh by one goal the last time they played, the team knew they had to play well from the start. With some great defensive work all down the court, the team continued to turn over Aberdeen's centres. The attack also worked really well in the attacking circle, resulting in the turnovers being converted. Gemma Finegold got player of the match due so excellent shooting from all areas in the circle. The team are hoping that they can continue this success through the rest of the season.
EUNC 6
EUNC 6 played at home this weekend to Aberdeen 4s and won 49-23. Player of the match was Bryony Robertson with some incredible blocks and interceptions throughout the court. The team continued to keep a strong lead throughout the match with some great court play by Meghan Gleeson, Laylah Scott and Bryony Robertson and good movement and shooting by Millie Diss, Rhianna Queen, Ellie Kooiman and Sophie Balsillie. EUNC 6 dominated most of the match with some good play, strong defending and good interceptions by Gaya Gole, Eliza Waskett and Ottilie Black. Overall a great team performance.
