Match Report: EUNC'S SCOTTISH CUP SUCCESS

The Scottish Cup Competition tournament took place at Oriam, Edinburgh on Saturday 5th November. Open to all Scottish senior netball clubs. The EUNC entered two teams into the cup this year. Each team played three matches, 12 minutes each way.

EUNC 1 EUNC 1sts arrived at the amazing new Oriam bright and early. Loving that the Scottish cup is finally being held in Edinburgh. The 1st match was set to be our toughest against SPRA. A few nervous passes to start but at half time we pulled away winning 32-6. The second match of the day saw EUNC face west hills. A great defensive effort from the team meant we kept them to only 2 goals in one of the halves. EUNC 1 won 35-7. In the third and final match EUNC were hoping to push for goals to get as high in the cup rankings as they could. With some tired players by this point but we pushed on and with some great play and shooting we finished on a high winning 33-4 against Dunedin. Overall, a very successful Saturday for EUNC 1 and it was great to get everyone out on court and seeing some friendly faces from other teams. Shout out to Ruby Wilkinson, who was sinking the long bombs all over the court and to Clare white who gave her everything!

Following the tournament the teams were be split into the Scottish Cup and Evelyn Beattie Quaich competitions. EUNC managed to take 2nd place after securing 3 wins, and a goal difference on 83. EUNC also made the cut, and came in 11th place. Both teams look forward to the knockout competitions. If the girls can keep up the success the National Finals Day is on Saturday 3rd June 2017 at Oriam, Edinburgh.

The second squad entered into the Scottish Cup tournament was made up from a mix of players from EUNC teams 2-4 photographed above. The squad captained by Meg McNair gelled well in the first match. Competition was high, EUNC 2 secured two wins. In their third match EUNC 2 faced Saltires, who put out an incredibly strong team and took the win. Alice Insull, 4s defender, played a phenomenal full match in each of the games! She gave it her all in every match and played at a excellent standard into the 72nd minute of play. Captain Meg McNair paved the way for the team with some amazing shooting stats. Two wins and a loss means EUNC 2 placed 11th overall and made the cut to remain in the top and enter the Cup draws. An amazing achievement considering the squad had never played before. Well done to the freshers, Scarlet, Honor, Lauren, Jenny, and Alice who stepped up to the mark in such high competition.
