Match Report: EUNC 1 VICTORIOUS OVER EUNC 2

Tuesday 25th October saw EUNC 1 face EUNC 2 in the BUCS league, for this first time this season. It’s always horrible to have to play another EUNC team, but the match must go on. Team spirit's were really high going into the match. Both sides had big team talks prior to the warm up. The match started off well, and the girls played some really great netball throughout the first quarter. EUNC 2 battled their way through and managed to keep the score gap just 3 goals, 12-9 to the 1s.

Going into the second quarter EUNC 1 made some changes, which proved effective. They stormed ahead, scoring 19 goals in the 15 minutes that followed. EUNC 2 player, Emma Niven kept her cool throughout the duration of the match in centre court, and was constantly exactly where she needed to be supporting play. EUNC 1's Kate Meagh came off at the end of the second quarter with a fractured finger, after an amazing quarter. The half time score was 31-12.

EUNC 2 changed things up in the second half and fought hard in the third quarter to narrow the score gap. With a lack of EUNC 2 shooters due to injury, Scarlett Brown and Scarlet Wilkins, EUNC 2 defenders, each played a quarter out of position in the attacking circle. Both did fantastic job, and even scored a few, well done girls. However, with 1s shooter, Ruby Wilkinson’s long shots going in from all over the court, EUNC 1 maintained their lead. The score was 42-19 at the end of the third quarter.

Kate Meagh returned to the court in the final quarter, with a broken finger, what a trooper. While at the other end of the court Eilidh Reid (GK) and captain Emily Nicholl's (GD), flying interceptions put incredible pressure on EUNC 2 in their attacking third. EUNC 1 pushed in the final quarter to meet their phenomenal score from the second quarter. Both coaches are very proud of the performance from both teams, it’s always great to play at such a high level. EUNC 2 certainly enjoyed the challenge, and would like to give a special mention to Taves Mason who’s shooting was amazing. She definitely stepped up to the plate and played her best netball yet this year, her shooting stats were incredible.

In the end EUNC 2 lost out 59-21 FT. However, it felt much closer than that from the sideline. Well done to both teams, the match was a great one to watch and thank you to everyone who came down to spectate. The support was very much appreciated!
