Match Report: SATURDAY 1ST OCTOBER

Saturday 1st October saw the start of the BUCS netball fixtures. EUNC had two matches, which seen EUNC 4 take on Dundee 1, and EUNC 3 take on Napier 1, in what was two very competitive matches.

EUNC 4

EUNC 4 took on Dundee 1st at home this afternoon, in what promised to be a tough match for the Edinburgh side. Dundee were demoted to division 2A this season, so it’s the first time the two team have met and nerves were high going into the game. Golden oldie, Elise Printer took to the court for first time in over a year and the 4s went out strong. Despite Dundee’s competitive play Edinburgh took an early lead in the first quarter.

Second quarter saw another golden oldie, Charlotte Thomas take the court, as she returns to the game strong, after a year abroad. At half time, Edinburgh extended the lead to 26-13. Man of the match, Pippa Hughes, was fighting hard in the defensive circle to maintain the lead but Dundee fought hard and pulled it back a bit in the final quarter to narrow the gap.

FT score of 40-28 in the first match of the season, there’s lots to work on going forward, but an amazing confidence boost for EUNC 4! A massive well done to Alice and Razann who were nominated players’ player of the match. Special mention to the four fresher’s who made their EUNC debut Alice Insull, Emma Watkinson, Jenny Sharp and Honor Myers, an amazing performance by all!! Thank you for the match Dundee!

EUNC 3

EUNC 3 played Napier away this afternoon. The opposing squad received promotion this year to division 2A and proved themselves in their first league match. Napier put pressure on EUNC from the onset and the home side took an early lead. Georgia Turnbull took to the court as Centre reluctantly, but proved herself quickly. We’ve a feeling this move may happen a little more often than she’d like.

There was excellent play from both sides in the first half, but it was Napier who stayed ahead. EUNC put up a strong fight with some excellent play in defence, despite the height difference in the Napier circle. At the other end of the court some fantastic movement and shooting from the Man of the match, Jenny O’Reilly, saw Edinburgh close the gap temporarily each quarter.

Debuting freshers Aisha Taylor-Sinclair and Jess McArthur proved themselves in the centre third, playing amazingly. EUNC battled hard in the final quarter, and an unlucky last second shot from McArthur was disallowed. EUNC missed out on the win, 58-47 FT. Congratulations on the win Napier, thank you for a great match!!

Finally thank you to the everyone who came down to support, especially Emma Niven who made the journey to the away match to help out!
